What the old way costs you
You are not short of software. You are short of software anyone uses.
Nine schools in ten are running on a 2005 technology stack with a 2026 invoice attached. Here is what that looks like from the inside.
01
A licence you bought, then got abandoned
Legacy desktop ERPs are sold as a one-time perpetual licence plus an annual maintenance contract. After the invoice clears, nobody invests in the product again. You pay every year for software that stopped improving in 2005.
02
Their IT problem became your IT problem
A Windows server humming in the accounts room. Backups on an external hard drive someone has to remember. A virus scare every few months. A local IT contractor on call. None of that is your school’s job.
03
Five vendors, five invoices, nothing talks
One vendor for biometric attendance, another for the payment gateway, an SMS pack, Excel for report cards, WhatsApp groups for parents, and paper registers for admission enquiries. Nothing reconciles, so your staff reconcile it by hand.
04
Screens built for database admins
Forty dropdowns and a hundred required fields on one form. Teachers try it twice, then quietly go back to the paper diary. You bought the module. Nobody uses the module.
05
Parents are left guessing
Fragmented SMS blasts, a queue at the bank branch on fee day, a 1.8-star app that is a web page in a wrapper, and no idea where the bus is. Every one of those is an admissions conversation you lose next season.
How B2skool is sold
Free where it should be free. Paid only where it genuinely costs us money.
A local system needs no servers, no payment rails and no telecom bills, so we do not charge for one. Everything that leaves your building — the parent app, real payments, live transport, sync — is the paid half.
Free forever
On your own computer, it is free. Forever.
SCHOOL OS Desktop installs on a school computer and runs on a local database. No internet, no per-student fee, no AMC, no server in the accounts room. The things a traditional ERP charges you a licence for are the things we give away.
Student & staff records
Full profiles, documents, siblings, transport and house allocation, stored locally.
Admissions enquiry register
Walk-ins and calls captured on a visual pipeline instead of a paper register.
Fee receipts & day book
Issue receipts, record cash and cheques, close the day, print the register.
Attendance
Exception marking — touch only the absentees and the late arrivals.
Timetable
Conflict-free period allocation with substitutions and room capacity.
Exams & report cards
Marks entry grids and board-compliant report card printing.
Library
Catalogue, issue, return, overdue fines, member cards.
The same database, synced. One paid licence turns on everything a local-only system can never do — the parent app, real payments, live transport, and one view across campuses. Switch it on in the middle of a term; the desktop app keeps working either way.
Parent app, iOS and Android
Attendance, homework, notices and behaviour notes in a feed parents actually open.
Fees paid in one tap
UPI, QR, cards, net banking and UPI Autopay mandates. Settled to your account in real time, reconciled against the student and the fee head automatically.
Live bus tracking
GPS route, ETA, geo-fence and speed alerts, with boarding and de-boarding confirmation to the parent.
Teacher app
Attendance, marks, homework and leave from a phone, between classes.
Multi-campus cockpit
Trusts and chains see fees billed, collected, pending and overdue across every campus on one screen.
Cloud backup & sync
Every device in the school sees the same data. No more "which computer has the latest file".
Verifiable credentials
QR-checkable marksheets and transfer certificates, mapped to APAAR and DigiLocker.
Recorded support sessions
Our engineers help inside your school scoped and recorded, without anyone sharing a password.
Priced per school, not off a rate card. Send us your strength and boards and the quote comes back the same working day.
Not a feature list. The screens themselves — drawn from the real product, with fictional students in them. If a screen here looks like something your staff would avoid, tell us on the call.

The invoice audit
Count the invoices on your desk. Eight of these twelve are free with us.
This is the stack a typical private school is running right now — a vendor, a licence or a credit pack for each line. Everything marked free runs on your own computer at no charge, with no student cap.

Do the arithmetic
What is your current stack actually costing you?
Put in your own numbers. We do not guess at anyone else's prices — the rupee figures below are only ever what you type, and the hours come from our value model, line by line.
Software and licences
Add your numbers
Fill in what you pay now and this totals it up, then marks the part that is free with us.
We quote per school rather than publishing a rate card, because strength, boards and campuses all move the answer. Tell us those three things and it comes back the same working day.
Everything a school actually runs on, speaking the same language
Not eight products bolted together. One database, so a library fine lands on a fee statement and an enquiry becomes a student without anyone retyping a name.
01
Admissions & marketing CRM
Every enquiry from every channel on one board, from first call to seat blocked.
Leads from the school website, walk-ins, Google and Meta ads and WhatsApp land in one funnel
Entab, Edunext, Fedena, the local vendor down the road — they are all built on the same decade-old assumptions. Here is where those assumptions cost you.
Traditional school ERP
B2skool · SCHOOL OS
Architecture
On-premise PHP or ASP.NET, client-server or a pseudo-cloud VM. High latency.
Cloud-native TypeScript and React, Postgres with row-level security, event queues.
What you pay
High upfront licence plus an annual maintenance contract. Product abandoned after purchase.
Free on your own computer, forever. Going online is a subscription quoted for your school, with managed onboarding and an SLA.
When the internet drops
Broken web pages — or a strictly offline desktop app that can never sync.
Hybrid: the desktop app keeps working on a local database and syncs the moment the line is back.
Design
Visual noise, 40+ dropdowns a screen, 90s blue-grey forms, unusable on a phone.
Consumer-grade design system: consistent type, keyboard shortcuts, works down to a 390px phone.
Fee collection
A payment gateway redirect. Your accountant matches the bank statement by hand.
Unreliable SMS broadcasts and a WebView wrapper app with a 1.8-star rating.
Native-speed app: timeline feed, live GPS transport, one-tap fees, direct teacher dialogue.
Security
Plaintext credentials, a shared admin password, wide open to ransomware.
Row-level security per school, role-scoped tokens, AES-256 at rest, TLS 1.3, DPDP Act 2023.
Certificates
Printed marksheets and transfer certificates anyone can forge in an afternoon.
Cryptographically signed, QR-verifiable credentials wired to the national registries.
Who gets their day back
Software fails in schools because it was built for one person
Usually the person who signed the cheque. Every role here gets its own screens — and a reason to actually open them.
Today
Fee defaults, revenue leakage, staff turnover, no real view across branches.
With B2skool
A central financial cockpit, automated fee collection and a visual admissions funnel.
20% faster fee recovery, 15% more admissions conversion, no revenue leakage
Trust
Your students' records are not a side concern
A school holds minors' names, photographs, addresses, medical notes and financial records. That deserves more than a shared admin password on a machine in the accounts room.
Every record is scoped to a verified school at the database level — not by a filter somebody might forget in application code.
Encrypted at rest and in transit
AES-256 at rest, TLS 1.3 in transit. Teachers see only their classrooms; parents only their own wards.
DPDP Act 2023
Built to the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 for consent, retention and the rights of a data principal.
No shared passwords, ever
When our engineers need to help, they enter a scoped, time-boxed, recorded session. Nobody emails a password.
An audit ledger you cannot edit
Every fee waiver, grade change and attendance edit is written down with who did it and when.
NEP 2020, APAAR and DigiLocker
APAAR ID mapping and DigiLocker sync, built for the frameworks arriving rather than bolted on after they land.
Straight answers
The questions every principal asks on the first call
Is the desktop app really free, or free for a trial?
Free, with no time limit and no student cap. It runs on a local database on your own computer, and the records it holds are yours. We charge only when you want the online half — the parent app, real payments, live transport and sync across devices — and that is quoted for your school.
Our internet is unreliable. Does that break everything?
No. Unlike a pure web ERP that stops when the broadband does, the desktop app runs on an embedded local database. The front office keeps registering visitors, issuing receipts and taking attendance offline, and the moment a connection appears it syncs both ways through a conflict-free queue.
How is the online version priced?
We quote per school, because a 300-student campus and a six-branch trust are not the same conversation. The quote covers the subscription, the fee-payment platform fee and managed onboarding, in writing, with no hidden credit packs. Tell us your strength and your boards and we will send it the same working day.
Why is there no free SMS credit pack?
Because free credit packs are how other vendors hide their costs. Circulars, homework, attendance and report cards go out free over in-app push notification and digital notices. WhatsApp and SMS are kept for genuinely urgent things — a bus delay, an emergency closure — and billed at what they cost.
We have fifteen years of data in Excel and an old ERP. Now what?
You hand us the messy sheets. Our onboarding team cleans them, maps them and hands you back a populated system with your students, staff, fee heads and historical ledgers already in it. Your staff do not do the data entry.
Our senior clerk will refuse to use anything new.
That is the single most common reason school software fails, and it is a design problem, not a training problem. Every screen is built to be learnable the way WhatsApp is learnable. If a screen needs a manual, we treat the screen as broken.
When should we switch?
Schools decide between November and February and deploy for the April session. If you are reading this in that window, now. If you are not, start on the free desktop app today and go online when the session turns.
How is this different from an open-source school ERP?
An open-source ERP is free to download and expensive to run: somebody has to host it, patch it, back it up, upgrade it across breaking versions and build whatever your board needs that the community did not. That somebody is usually a contractor on a retainer, which is an AMC under a different name. SCHOOL OS Desktop is free as a finished product — it installs, it runs, it is supported, and the roadmap is ours to deliver rather than yours to fund.
What if we leave?
You export your students, staff, ledgers, marks and documents, and you keep running the free desktop app on your own machine. We would rather earn the renewal than hold your records hostage.
Start free today. Decide about the cloud in April.
Install SCHOOL OS Desktop on one office computer this week and run your admissions, receipts, attendance and report cards on it for nothing. When you want the parent app and online fees, we are one call away.
